New Courses for Spring 2013
The Spring 2013 Course Schedule for Saint Mary Seminary and Graduate School of
Theology is now posted on the webpage: www.stmarysem.edu and is listed in the Diocesan
Memorandum for your review. In addition to the regular offerings, the following new
courses will be offered:
SC 614 THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES 2 credits
Rev. Mark Ott, S.S.L. Monday: 6:40-8:35 p.m.
This course will explore the many curiosities which make the Acts of the Apostles a truly unique work
among NT literature. Among these are its intimate relationship to Luke's Gospel, its historically shifting
place in the Canon, its genre as Hellenistic history, the importance of its many speeches, and the portraits
of Paul and the Apostles one finds there.
PAS 654/954 TECHNOLOGY IN MINISTRY: THE THEOLOGICAL DIALOGUE 2 credits
Sr. M. Brendon Zajac, SND, D.Min. Wednesday, 3:35 – 5:25 p.m.
This course will survey relevant Church documents, beginning with the Second Vatican Council’s decree
Inter Mirifica, to outline the theological and social justice foundation for the Church’s engagement with
social communication. Students will apply the principles of theologically based pastoral planning to the
integration of technology in ministry to further the Church’s mission of the New Evangelization in the
Third Millennium
HIS 420 ST. AUGUSTINE: AN OVERVIEW OF HIS LIFE AND THOUGHT 2 credits
Rev. Peter Mihalic, S.T.D. Tuesday 9:40 – 11:30 a.m.
This course begins with a review of Augustine’s life and search for truth. Selections from the Confessions
are examined. Special topics are considered in terms of their theological influence on the Western Church.
The course concludes with a study of Augustine’s rule as the epitome of his religious thought.
