Global Awareness and Interfaith Committee

Concern for the high number of persons of the various Hispanic cultures residing within the Diocese of Cleveland prompts the seminary to continually address ways  of providing pastoral care.  Seminarians participate in various programs of immersion or inculturation at select sights in Africa or with one of the mission teams in El Salvador.  Students have the opportunity for Spanish languages studies at local universities or at the Spanish Immersion Program and Language School in Antigua, Guatemala.

Global Fellows:  A Parish Homily Program

As part of the formation program in social justice issues, St. Mary Seminarians are invited to participate in the Catholic Relief Service (CRS) Global Fellows Program.  Through an overseas immersion trip, Seminarians experience the plight of the poor and marginalized first hand. On their return, participants visit parishes and share their life-changing experiences. They are empowered to invite others to act on behalf of the world’s poor. To learn more click here.

Hispanic Studies Program:

Seminarians have the opportunity to visit and serve parishes in El Salvador staffed by the Diocese of Cleveland. In preparation, the seminary provides opportunities to study Spanish locally or through an immersion program in Central America.  The Formation program conducts the Eucharistic Liturgy in Spanish on a regular basis and engages seminarians in Hispanic ministry within the diocese.

 Interfaith Activities

Seminarians enroll in coursework devoted to the ecumenical movement to learn about traditions in the Christian, Jewish, and Islamic faiths.  Annually, the seminarians engage in prayer, dialog, and other activities designed to foster Christian Unity and interreligious understanding and harmony.  Students also attend a yearly Jewish-Catholic Colloquium.
