2014 Mullen Lecture – Sunday, November 16, 2014 – 7:30 PM
“The Gift of Marriage: The Current Controversy” will be the topic of the 2014 Mullen Lecture presented by Professor Robert Louis Wilken, Professor of the History of Christianity Emeritus of the University of Virginia. The lecture will be held on November 16, 2014 at 7:30 PM in the Aula Magna at the Center for Pastoral Leadership.
Professor Wilken earned his doctorate in the History of Christianity from the University of Chicago in 1963, and has taught at the University of Virginia since 1985 where he currently the William R. Kenan, Jr., Professor of the History of Christianity Emeritus. He has taught at the University of Notre Dame, Fordham University, the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, as well as at the Augustinianum and the Gregorian University in Rome. He has served as the president for the American Academy of Religion, the North American Patristic Society, and the Academy of Catholic Theology. Professor Wilken has been elected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. He has published twelve books, among them The First Thousand Years: A Global History of Christianity (Yale U. Press, 2012) and The Spirit of Early Christian Thought: Seeking the Face of God (Yale U. Press, 2003) which has been translated into German, Italian, and Japanese, with the Polish, Ukrainian, and Chinese translations forthcoming.
